Golf Techniques : The Jackson Golf Methods

Hi, I’m Gordon Jackson, author of such books as How Golf Works, How To Lock-In A Perfect Golf Swing and How to Hit a Golf Ball As Straight-As-An-Arrow:

If you watch golf on television you will notice how the “pros” ungrip and regrip a portion of their right hand on the club during their setup routine in an attempt to perform a perfect golf swing.  Although it may appear as nothing more than mere habit, it has a significant impact on ball flight. For example,

The  manner and times you ungrip and regrip your right hand on your club can lock-in a specific ball flight alignment

A locked-in straight ball flight is one in which your clubface is locked-in to a square alignment and an online swing path during your setup routine. Once locked-in, the square alignment and the online swing path of your clubface will remain locked-in during the rest of your setup proceedings as well as during your golf swing as long as you do not thereafter disconnect and unlock your right-hand lifeline from your left thumb.

A locked-in slice or fade ball flight alignment is one in which the clubface is locked-in to an open (or slightly open) alignment and on an out-to-in swing path during the setup routine. Once a slice or fade ball flight alignment is locked-in, it will remain locked-in during the rest of the setup proceedings and, also, during the golf swing, as long as the right-hand lifeline is not thereafter disconnected or unlocked from the left thumb.

The Mechanism That Locks-In A Specific
Ball Flight Alignment Is The Right-Hand
Lifeline Locked On The Left Thumb
At A Specific Time In A Certain
Manner A Precise Number of Times

The mechanism to lock-in a specific ball flight alignment such as a straight, fade or draw is the exercise of unlocking your right-hand lifeline from your left thumb and then relocking your right-hand thumb on your left thumb at a specific time in a certain manner, and a precise number of times during your setup routine.

First, you must grip your club in a conventional manner in order to lock-in a specific ball flight alignment. This means you must assume either an original Vardon overlap, modified Vardon overlap, traditional interlock or a regular baseball (ten-fingers) type of grip on your club and complete your grip by locking your right-hand lifeline squarely and securely on your left thumb.

For example, a hook or draw ball flight alignment is locked-in by first assuming a conventional style of grip on your club, then moving one or more body parts in a specific manner until your wrists rotate your clubface to a closed alignment and, also, to an in-to-out swing path.

However, this movement merely establishes a hook or draw ball flight alignment, it doesn’t lock-in such a ball flight alignment.

In order to lock-in a hook or draw ball flight alignment, you must then unlock your right–hand lifeline from your left thumb and then relock your right-hand lifeline squarely and securely on your left thump a prescribed number of times.

When The Right-Hand Lifeline Is
Locked Correctly On The Left Thumb
The Prescribed Number Of Times
An Effective New Bone Joint Will Be Formal

The exercise of unlocking and relocking the lifeline/thumb connection at a specific time in a certain way a prescribed number of times forms an effective new joint between the right-hand lifeline and the left thumb, not unlike the wrist, arms or shoulder joints. This is how a specific locked in ball flight alignment occurs.

Although it took me more than 10 years of research and  thousands of experiments to understand how this mechanism locks-in a specific ball flight alignment, I since have designed, developed and perfected more than 100 techniques to lock-in a straight ball flight alignment and numerous ways to lock-in a slice, fade, hook, draw, pull, push or pulled-hook or push slice ball flight alignment. Once locked-in all that remains is to:

Align your shoulders parallel with your target line

Center the sweet spot of your clubface as near to the back of your ball (without moving the ball in the process).
Raise your shoulders until the sole of the clubface is at least 6  inches above the ball and then re=center the clubface behind the ball to re-sync the upper and bottom torso.

Then execute a simple golf swing free of any club manipulation.

Your downswing should deliver the desired clubface alignment to your ball at impact on a desired swing path that will fly your ball in the direction and pattern you intended.

Unfortunately, Few If Any Golfers –
Including Professional Players –
Have A Specific Locked-Ine Ball Flight
At The Completion Of Their Setup Routine

Very few if any golfers – including professional and low handicap golfers – have a specific locked-in ball flight alignment at the completion of their setup routine unless they have adopted and used some of my locked-in techniques. Otherwise, if they do, it merely is a matter of luck.

In order to lock-in a specific ball flight alignment your elbows and wrists must be rotated in a prescribed manner to align your clubface to a precise alignment and also your clubface to a specific swing path.

This does not occur by happenstance and guesswork.

As mentioned earlier, it took me more than 10 years of research and experiments to learn how to lock-in specific ball flight alignments.

More than 70 of my techniques to lock-in a straight ball flight alignment are discussed on my lockedingolf.com website.

In most of my techniques to lock-in either a straight, slice, hook or some other specific ball flight alignment, the wrists and elbows typically must be rotated to a specific position – in response to some body-part movement – immediately after assuming a conventional style of grip.

However,

When Using The Jackson Golf MethodTM
The Wrists And Elbows Need Not Be
Rotated To A Specific Point Immediately
After Assuming A conventional Style Of Grip

When using the Jackson Golf MethodTM to lock-in a specific ball flight alignment, there is no requirement to lock-in the desired ball flight alignment in response to some body-part movement immediately following the assumption of a conventional style of grip.

This is one of the advantages of using the Jackson Golf MethodTM to lock-in a specific ball flight alignment. Once you assume a conventional style of grip with your right-hand lifeline squarely and securely locked on your left thumb you could walk around a park and then be able to lock-in either a straight, slice (fade) or hook (draw) ball flight alignment.

All you need to know and do in order to lock-in either a straight, fade or draw ball flight alignment when using the Jackson Golf MethodTM is to unlock your right-hand lifeline from your left thumb and then lock your right-hand lifeline on your left thumb in a specific manner a precise number of times when your clubface is positioned a certain way in relation to the surface.

However, even when using the Jackson Golf MethodTM you must not unlock your right-hand lifeline from your left thumb once you have locked-in a specific ball flight alignment. If your right-hand lifeline is unlocked and disconnected from your left thumb after locking-in a specific ball flight alignment, all bets are off. You no longer will be locked-in.

The Jackson Golf MethodTM Allows
You To Lock-In Either A Straight,
Fade Or Draw Ball Flight Alignment

The only three golf shots you will need in a typical round of golf is either a straight, fade or draw. The vast majority of your shots will require a straight ball flight. However, there will be instances in which a fade or draw will serve you better such as to straighten the flight of your ball toward your target in windy conditions, to curve your ball around some obstruction between your ball and your target, to reduce the distance to your target by curving your ball around a dogleg, etc.

The Jackson Golf MethodTM provides the complete package you will need in a round of golf: a locked-in straight, slice (fade) or hook (draw) ball flight alignment.

The Jackson Straight Golf MethodTM locks-in a straight ball flight alignment during the setup routine. It requires only one unlock and relock of the lifeline/thumb connection once the clubface reaches a certain position in relation to the surface.

The Jackson Draw MethodTM locks-in a slight hook (draw) alignment during the setup routine. It requires two unlocks and relocks of the lifeline/thumb connection once the clubface reaches a certain position in relation to the surface.

The Jackson Fade MethodTM locks-in a slight slice (fade) alignment during the setup routine. It requires three unlocks and relocks of the lifeline thumb connection once the clubface reaches a certain position in relation to the surface.

Once either a straight, draw or fade ball flight alignment is locked-in the remaining steps are simple: merely center the sweet spot of the clubface directly behind the ball, align the shoulders parallel with the path you wish the ball initially to fly and then execute a simple golf swing.
