Golf Swing Instructions: Learn The Game From Inside-Out

golf swing instructionsSome of the best golf swing instructions  is to practice what is commonly expressed as “from the inside-out.”

The reason why this is one of the best golf swing instructions to improve your golf swing is that most strokes are lost in the short game: putting, chipping and pitching from within 100 yards of the pin.

Tiger Wood was taught to play the game from inside-out by his father. Indeed, if you trace Tiger’s wins, especially his Major’s, you will know he won most of the time with his superb short game, not by blasting 300 yard drives.

Tiger was known to recover from almost any condition, even if he did not always hit straight golf shots.

However, Tiger was not the greatest player with a sensational short game. Seve Ballesteros was the very best, as attested by many of his fellow players, such as Ben Crenshaw.

Apparently Seve never learned how to hit a golf ball straight but was able to recover because of his tremendous short game, as he so incredibly demonstrated in his Master’s and British Open’s victories. He was one of the greatest players with the short game of all time.

I recently watched David Feherty interview Ian Poulter on the Golf Channel.

Feherty asked Poulter about his greatest golfing experience.

Poulter remarked that it was when he had the opportunity to play with Seve during his second year on tour because Seve had such an incredible short game. You too can improve your golf swing by practicing golf shots from within 100 yards  of a real or imaginary hole location at a ratio of  3 to 1 compared to those outside of such range,

Whether chipping or pitching, if you can judge your distances to within five yard increments by using a variety of shots, including halves, three-quarters and full swings and, further fine tuning your distances with fades and draws, you eventually should have a lot more birdie opportunities than using your practice time attempting  to blast your drives 300 yards.

It doesn’t necessarily matter how well or long you can drive your ball unless you have an incredible short game to back it up. Unless you concentrate more on improving your game from inside-out, you are not likely to lower your golf score or improve your golf swing,  appreciably.
